The only words to describe this place were 'so amazing' when I saw this waterfall in full flood last week (at the end of a wet October). I got totally soaked by the spray from this deafening waterfall where the beck or river jumps 20 metres down into a deep gorge, before it flows into Ullswater Lake. It's power is so spectacular that it inspired the poet William Wordsworth to write about it, 'Where clouds that spread in solemn shade, are edged with golden rays!' The waterfall lies in the midst of mature Oak woodland owned by the National Trust that maintains good paths and a car park to help all comers visit this beautiful natural feature. There is also a second waterfall, High Force, which is itself pretty amazing.
